Notes
It’s getting froggy.
So, I’m sitting in Roots today. Per the usual, one Matthew Tanner and I were shooting the shit - making the terrible jokes we make.
This girl, her father, and her sister walk in. They order some drinks and the girl asks for an application. One Matthew Tanner walks to the back, calls some people, and finally finds what he believes to be the key to employment at the fine establishment (“Once I’m fired, of course,” he recounted).
She grasped the document, turned (slightly) to her left and, for whatever reason, decided that looking at me for a second would be a good idea.
Indeed it was.
“You’re in Boss Frog, aren’t you?” she asked.
Indeed I am.
“….,” said I.
“Yeah, you definitely are!” she exclaimed
(but without the tonal excitement - it was an issue of body language)
I turned to one Matthew Tanner and spoke the next few words with a tinge of jest:
“This is a joke, right?” asked I to one Matthew Tanner. “You have to be kidding,” I spake to her.
“[something along the lines of] Not at all! I saw you guys at Unplugged, Rock the District, on Tumblr, and on the radio!” she responded with more tonal excitement than the previous physical kind.
Sweet.
“Really? You bothered to listen to our radio interview?” asked my confusèd self.
Enter Father, stage right.
Father: What’s this about?
Self: Myself and, [something of the effect of], this one Matthew Tanner are in a local band, Boss Frog.
Girl: Yeah, they’re really good.
Father: Do you have anything on iTunes?
Self: Not quite yet - we’re working on it now, actually.
——
And that was the end of that. They exited as they arrived, leaving one Matthew Tanner and I stunned that we have one fan that we aren’t friends with. One fan that isn’t there just to egg us on and go to all of our shows for something to do.
It’s shit like this, world. Shit like this.
